Carla Ricalis

Carla Ricalis is a Canadian Pilates educator, studio owner and mentor known for her leadership in professional instructor training and studio operations. 

She is the director and owner of Studio³ in Toronto, Ontario where she has cultivated a personalized, fully equipped environment for both clients and teachers to thrive.

Carla earned her full STOTT Pilates Certification under renowned Master Pilates Trainer, Moira Stott in 1996 when she began teaching Pilates full time as an educator and client practitioner.

Before founding Studio³ in 2008, she oversaw and managed several Pilates studios in Northern California and co-founded the Northern California STOTT Pilates Certification Centre.

In 2011 Carla earned her Masters degree from York University defending her thesis that explored and argued for integrating critical theory into Pilates and fitness education.

Studio³ emphasizes small group and individualized instruction, prioritizing quality movement education over high-volume classes. 

Carla advocates for structure and accountability in studio systems as tools for instructor freedom and client success. 

Her philosophy, shared through podcasts and writing, stresses trust-based team culture and mentorship to sustain excellence in Pilates instruction.

Speaking as a guest on several Pilates podcasts, Carla has discussed the evolving business models of independent Pilates studios, the importance of clear communication in defining a studio’s identity and the value of upholding quality Pilates education for client retention and professional longevity and success. 

She also served as a mentor with Futurpreneur Canada, having guided wellness entrepreneurs in building sustainable small businesses.

Current influence

Through Studio³ speaking engagements, and online publishing, Carla continues to shape the professional culture of Pilates instruction by balancing operational systems with a human-centered approach that values both instructors’ and clients’ growth.
